DIY Self Watering Pot With Recycled Materials
Want to clean up the gardening industry? Build your own self-watering planter from old pop bottles.
The Sunday Tribune is carrying an article detailing the gardening supply industry’s recent (and belated attempts) to become greener. They point out that currently, only an estimated 1% of plastic used in the agricultural and horticultural industry is recycled compared to about 25% of all plastic used in pop and milk bottles. The Trib follows up with a brief article listing some simple things the home gardener can do to reduce their waste.
But why stop there? Homegrown Evolution and Green Roof Growers have discussed using homemade, self-watering pots made from 2 L pop bottles as an alternative to buying pots.
Way cool. Here are two sets of illustrated instructions for making your own self-watering pop bottle pot. Get growing!
