Packing Peanuts

How often do you toss your old toothbrush in the trash with out giving it a second though?  Is your closet filled with old prom dresses and bridal gowns you will never wear again?  Fear not gentle viewer, help has arrived!

The Whether Channel’s website dedicated to climate change, Forecast Earth, has an informative article entitled simply: “10 Things to Recycle That You Never Thought You Could.”

The article gives detailed information on how exactly you can recycle 10 traditionally difficult to recycle items.  It also provides great links to organizations that specialize in recycling and reusing your old junk.  There is information on what you can do with your old toothbrushes (reprocessed into plastic lumber), formal wear (charities providing prom wear for low-income teens) and even the dreaded polystyrene packing peanut.

I have always hated these little bits of foam that just seem to fill space in shipping boxes and then take up space in my trashcan.  Fortunately there are two great organizations that can help with all your polystyrene recycling needs.  The Loose Plastic Fill Council’s website lets you search for companies near you who want to re-use your packing peanuts.  The Alliance of Foam Packaging Recyclers has great information on what you can do with the larger, molded pieces of polystyrene that usually protect larger consumer electronics during shipping.
