Environmentally Responsible Beer
Dark Beer
Summer is here! Do you ever find yourself wishing you could toss back a few frosty, sustainably brewed, cold ones? Look further than the New Belgium Brewing Company. Not only does this employee-owned company use a wide range of innovative eco-friendly practices, they also make delicious beer.
The New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado, has been entirely wind powered since 1999. They use super efficient kettles and they even recapture the methane from their own wastewater treatment facility to use in their on-site co-generation plant.
Their signature Fat Tire Amber Ale is their most popular beer, but I find that their 1554, a dark ale, really hits the mark. The only downside of this company is that their beers are currently only available in 19 states. Hopefully Michigan will be added to that list soon.
