Algae BioFuel

Ok, we have got to figure this out. Biofuels offset our need for fossil fuel - that’s good. Biofuels, as they are currently manufactured, replace food crops with fuel crops - that’s bad. Food prices are going through the roof in many countries. There are food riots in Haiti and more can be expected around the globe. While this is partly due to drought conditions last year, it will be blamed on biofuels competing with staple crops for scarce farm land.

Making biofuels from food isn’t a good long term strategy. Making biofuels from Algae and municipal waste makes long term sense. We need to show some political backbone and let our representatives know we support tax dollars paying for research and development of non-food based biofuels.

Recently Earth2tech had a round up of 15 companies who are developing algae based biofuels.
