iPetal Solar Charger

We have extensively covered what we think are the technologies of 2009 that merit an award:  the Solar/LED light; the Open Source Treadle Pump and the Solar Vaccine Refrigerator, but we at SDU are in tune with the mainstream of design, heck we even go to design conferences.

At Treehugger we found a review of the best in green tech for 2009 and the 00′s that merit attention.

Solar/LED Necklace Makes a Statement

This necklace by Swedish design student Mae Yokoyama would certainly show your green cred’ on the runway, but it doesn’t look comfortable.  All those sharp edges and corners probably make this more of a concept piece than practical.  I hope it has batteries, otherwise you would have to stand in the sun to make it self illuminate.

From the design school website:

Mae Yokoyama brings technology into the world of haute couture and show how to profit from the sun and turn energy into beauty.

One piece that stands out in her production is a collar made of solar panels, accumulating energy during daytime. When the sun goes down a string of pearls is illuminated, turning the functional look of the solar panels into a subtle and fashionable necklace.
